Trade License Renewal

Trade License Renewal is the annual administrative refresh of a UAE company's operating license. For mainland Dubai entities, renewal goes through DET and requires a current Ejari tenancy contract, paid government fees, paid Chamber of Commerce subscription, and (where applicable) any sectoral approvals refreshed. For free zones, renewal is done on the zone's member portal and typically bundles flexi-desk renewal, audit submission, and visa-quota confirmation.

Late renewal triggers daily fines from AED 250+, blocks visa issuance, and risks license suspension. Most renewals can be completed within 1–3 working days from a clean file.

The Trade License Renewal process generally involves the following steps:

1. Review Requirements: Check the specific requirements of your company type (mainland LLC or free zone) and the relevant licensing authority (DED or Free Zone Authority).
2. Gather Documents: Collect necessary documents such as the company's Memorandum of Association (MOA), Articles of Association, Emirates ID copies, visa copies, and any updated business information.
3. Submit Application: Submit the renewal application online or through the licensing authority's designated channels.
4. Pay Renewal Fee: Pay the required renewal fee, which varies depending on the company type and activities.
5. Receive Renewal License: Upon successful submission and payment, you will receive your renewed trade license.

A mainland LLC in Dubai will need to renew its trade license with the Department of Economic Development (DED) in Dubai. A company operating in a free zone like Jebel Ali Free Zone will renew its license with the relevant Free Zone Authority. For example, a consultancy firm operating under a mainland LLC license will need to update its details with the DED and ensure its Emirates ID is current to continue operating legally.

A lapsed license is not a small admin issue — it blocks visa renewals, freezes corporate bank accounts (banks check license validity), and triggers continuous daily fines. Renewing on time is the cheapest compliance step in the calendar.
